The Circle of Eleven Men

“Deepwater Horizon Memorial”

Died in the Explosion of Offshore Oil Rig

The Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig blew up in April of 2010 killing 11 men on the rig. The rig leaked about 172 million barrels of oil after the explosion. The circle of life size men were set up on September 9, 2016. The artist was Jason Kives who memorialized the 11 men.

The life size statues were made out of 2000 steel discs per man. The men are in a circle on the nuetral gound of Elysian Fields by Dauphine Street in the Marigny neighborhood of New Orleans. Not that far from the French Quarter.
